Lucky Sevan Mission
Lucky Sevan’s mission is to strengthen God’s children by equipping youth and adults alike with the tools to navigate today’s challenges in a loving, supportive, and inclusive environment. Our goal is to help all participants view challenges as opportunities for growth and to recognize their own ability to create real change in their lives and become the best versions of themselves—the versions God wants them to be.
Lucky Sevan uses Mother Ocean and her beaches as the backdrop to teach individuals to get out of their comfort zone and make new connections with powerful and eternal principles.
It is in this dynamic beach environment that we successfully stretch ourselves and learn core character and life-building skills. Youth are taught through daily team building activities, tailored workshops, and mentor-led team discussions about communication, inclusion, trust, and self-confidence. Daily yoga and meditation sessions and powerful, spiritually-inspiring evening devotionals founded on gospel principles help refine participants and instill in them physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional disciplines as the essential pillars for true strength and growth. Our aim is to help youth unlock their divine, inherent potential and to better incorporate the principles they learn at the retreat into their everyday lives.
The central strategy of Lucky Sevan is to use the experience and challenge of learning to surf to teach young people what it takes to not only ride waves but also to successfully navigate the waves in their own lives, to gain a deeper understanding and respect for themselves and others, and more importantly, to discover what their contribution will be to the world in which they live.
We believe what Buckminster Fuller realized while standing on the shores of Lake Michigan as he looked into the freezing waters. In a powerful epiphany he discovered, “My life does not belong to myself, but to others. What can I give to others, and what will become of a life of service?”
The most supreme example of service we have to look to is the Savior Jesus Christ. His ministry, His teachings, and His selfless sacrifice were born out of His infinite love and tremendous care for each one of us.
The youth of today can do hard things. They can learn the principles of accountability and integrity. They can understand how to access the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Participants come to know their Savior in a relatable and unforgettable way that is not only interactive but authentic. As a result, youth are able to more successfully navigate their life’s journey and participate in building God’s kingdom by making and keeping sacred covenants in preparation for the Lord’s Second Coming.
